Join us on Saturday September 14th from 6-9 PM at The Active Space Gallery, 566 Johnson Ave. Bushwick, for an exploration into the elusive nature of the self, where each piece acts as a mirror reflecting the multifaceted truths of human identity. Curated by: Laura Horne, Steven Pestana, and Sophia Sobers.
"On the Edge of the Infinite Part V" is the latest in a series of one-night-only art events at The Active Space Gallery.
Each artwork offers a different perspective on the unstable terrain of identity, revealing that as the self shifts and evolves, our grasp on what defines us slips away. We might think of social media as fun, silly, or just a pastime, but its impact on public discourse and our personal lives is profound, shaping our perceptions and influencing our identities individually and socially. Multiple versions of reality and diverging performances of the self yield conflicting truths, amplifying the believability of falsehoods. Donna Dimitrova reveals the concealed layers of the inner self, portraying the secrets we shield from others and ourselves. Kevin Frances invites viewers into stylishly pristine environments through his portrayal of unoccupied yet narrative-rich domestic scenes, crafted in miniature or woodblock prints, that hint at human presence. Jack Henry transforms everyday materials into sculptures that capture personal and collective memories, anchoring the fleeting nature of identity. DeepPond Kim's hyper-realistic ceramic figures engage in a poetic dialogue on transformative inner life, illustrating the fluidity of personal reality. Sophia Sobers blends live coding with responsive visuals exploding the dynamic boundaries between the virtual and the tangible realms in real-time.
