When The Artwork Disappears

Tussle Projects invites artists and writers to participate in an open call project inspired by Sei Smith's concept, The Painting's Journey, a project that dissolves the image, the market, and the notion of a canonical object. Instead, the artwork exists only as the descriptive text, effectively replacing the visual image.We are seeking 3 artists to submit a catalyst artwork and 9 writers to give these works life through text. Will these works become more vivid in the mind’s eye than they ever could be on a gallery wall?

Tussle Magazine/Projects & Lichtundfire are thrilled to announce the inaugural Summer Residency Program at Lichtundfire. The gallery is nestled in New York City's vibrant Lower East Side in the Borough of Manhattan.

This exhibition, conceived under the "OPEN CALL: Art Exchange and Collaboration" rubric, instigates a deliberate disruption of artistic autonomy, a direct intervention into the myth of singular creative sovereignty. Soliciting "finished" works only to subject them to another's transformative hand deconstructs the trajectory from solitary conception to singular execution. The artwork, no longer inviolable, becomes mutable, a provisional statement awaiting dialogic re-articulation within this art project in circulation. This unsettles the ingrained practice of singular authorship and its attendant creative intention, echoing the spirit of artistic movements that challenged traditional norms.
